Daegu’s Tap Water Production Process

Daegu’s tap water is produced through a comprehensive water purification system.
Water purification plants drawing water from the Nakdonggang River and Gongsan Dam operate standard and advanced water purification facilities. Water purification plants drawing water from Unmun Dam, Gachang Dam, and the Wicheon Stream operate standard water purification facilities to produce the highest quality clear and clean tap water.

Advanced Water Purification Facilities

General Filtration Treatment Facility

  • Water intake plant : Here, raw water is drawn in and sent to a water purification plant
  • Pre-ozone contact tank : Trace harmful substances like 1,4-dioxane and algae are removed here
  • Powdered activated carbon contact tank : Removes trace harmful substances, including perfluorinated compounds, and taste and odor substances that are difficult to remove using conventional water purification processes
  • Mixing tank : Ensures chemicals added to the water mix well with the water
  • Coagulation : Here, chemicals and suspended solids to clump together, making them larger and heavier
  • Sedimentation tank : The coagulated substances are allowed to settle in this tank
  • Sand filtration tank : Here, water is filtered through layers of sand and gravel to make it clear
  • Post-ozone contact tank : Organic substances decompose or oxidize here
  • Activated carbon adsorption tank : Organic substances are adsorbed and removed in this tank
  • Purification tank : Temporarily stores the purified water
  • Distribution tank : Tap water supplied from the purification plant is stored here before distribution to individual households.
